Thanksgiving

(perfect weather)
(Elizabeth setting the table)

Our first Thanksgiving in our new house was a BIG success!!  I had to work on the friday after Thanksgiving so Riley and I decided to host Thanksgiving this year.  We missed the rest of the family, but we did not miss the 8 hour drive. It was really nice not going back and forth from between families and just relaxing. My parents arrived on tuesday and bought themselves a bed to sleep on. We were so happy because we did not have a bed for the third room and it is so soft and comfy. I think we are going to trade it out with our mattress. On Wednesday while Riley and I were at work, my dad worked on the sliding gate so the dogs could not get out and my mom cooked all day. Thursday morning Elizabeth and Robert arrived with pumpkin bread, sweet potato casserole, and stuffed celery. I made home made green bean casserole and the turkey. Mom made squash casserole (for riley), pineapple casserole, stuffing, rolls, and a quiche and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. mmmmm. it was so delicious! I am starting my diet monday.

After the big meal we went on a walk to downtown Salem and walked back through Roanoke College. Robert and Elizabeth taught us this extremely hilarious game they learned in Canada called celebrity. Each person writes down three celebrities on scratch paper and puts it in a hat. Then you pull a celebrity name out of the hat and have to do an impression of them until the others guess who you are, when that round is over you put the names back in the hat. The next round you pull the names out of the hat and play charades and the next round you can only say one word to describe the celebrity you are, but you can say that word as many times as you like. For instance riley had George W. Bush so he just said Strategery and everyone guessed it. I can't wait to play it again this Christmas!

Friday everyone met me at work around lunch and I showed them the new model home that we just opened and they got to meet my co-workers. Afterwards riley and I took them to our favorite spot in Blacksburg, Cabo Fish Taco.  After lunch we split up and the girls went shopping and the boys went back home to pre-game for the Bama/Auburn game. When we came home Bama was in the lead, but shortly it ended sadly and Auburn won by a point. Oh well, maybe next year.

Well that was our Thanksgiving and I am so thankful for everyone in my life. Especially for my family, Riley, Mr. Mcbeevee, Mom, Dad, Robert, Elizabeth, Hunter, Stephnie, Tom, Glenda, Jennifer, Patrick, and Ellie.

Things I want to learn

Here is a list of things I would LOVE to learn.

1. My main goal is to go back to school next year at Virginia Tech and get my masters in Interactive New Media and Design. After that I would love to teach one day.

2. Speak Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian fluently. I would love to live in any of these places for a couple of years.

3. Guitar - I took lessons in high school from a guy in my church, but quit after 2 months. I would love to play and sing on stage in roanoke one day.

4. I guess if I got guitar lessons I would need voice lessons as well. On long road trips back to bama, riley and I cry laughing as we sing our hearts out and  try to harmonize. He really needs them more than I do.

see what I mean....

and last but not least I really want Riley and I to take a cooking class together.

Halloween

Guess who's back, back again, katie's back, tell a friend. hahah

(Captain Bevee and I waiting on tricker treaters)

It is a very very cold sunday morning and I have decided to get back to blogging.  A lot has happened in the past couple of weeks. Let's start with our first Halloween in Roanoke. We had a blast! Riley and I dressed up as shaggy and scooby, we went to a ton of fun parties, we had tricker treaters and riley's parents came back up and finished helping us build the fence.

Here is some pics of our costumes. The night was filled with dancing to "teach me how to dougie" and "stanky leg," two of my all time favorites. haha.... At one party downtown our friend Liam who dressed up as Allen from the Hang Over, got into a dance off with another guy dressed up as Allen and won! Some of the funniest costumes I saw was the guy from the youtube intruder video, the "I like turtles boy" from youtube, keith stone, and the gay guys from modern family.

In other News

One of my best friends Miss Rachael Zicarelli aka Ziggy, Ziggarino, or the artist formally known pook, got engaged this weekend! Rachael and I were roommates my sophomore year in the sorority house and got into a lot of trouble together. Now Rachael is a pharmacist in Birmingham and I am so proud of her! I love being around Rachael and she always brings out the best in people.
Her new fiance Reed is such a fun and hilarious person. When I told Riley about the engagement he said he really liked Reed because they have the same hair type. hehe. I am so happy for them and I know they will have a wonderful marriage.

Moved in

This weekend Riley and I moved to the new place! We are so happy that we are out of that stinky old apartment or as Mr. Mcbeevee calls it "his fur palace." We are still staring at all the boxes... It felt extremely quiet sleeping here the first night, but amazing! Our bedroom is definitely my favorite room in the house. Mostly because it is the only room totally painted, but also because I love the feel of the light fresh colors. It just feels peaceful, exactly what a bedroom is suppose to feel like. I got the grey room idea from my favorite designer on HGTV, Sarah Richardson. She has this fabulous show called Sarah's House.  She buys fixer uppers and makes them into dream homes. It seems like all my favorite designers are Canadian.  My sister Elizabeth is living in Montreal while her husband Robert finishes up his thesis to become a doctor of French. They have been there for almost three months and I am so sad that I can not go visit, but I am hoping she can bring back some canadian style when she helps me fix up the house. She is loves to watch the Steven and Chris show, two scary gay designers on canadian tv, so maybe she will get some good tips. Here is the pics of sarah's master bedroom and a pic of her.

New Casa

I recently got a new job working about 30 min. away in Blacksburg, VA. Riley and I started to look for a place to live that was more in the middle for both of us. Salem seemed to be the perfect fit. It was cute, poverty free, and had this very friendly small town vibe, kinda like mayberry. After looking for about  a week at really expensive, big, and maintenance free houses, we decided to go with the complete opposite. We purchased a tiny, cheap, fixer upper. We are so excited and overwhelmed with this house! The  past 2 months have been hilarious. I now realize that I have married the clumsiest man alive, a regular chevy chase, bless his heart. After 2 paint buckets spilt, tile broken, paint in the eye, water faucet hose spewing in the kitchen and then putting the hose INSIDE my car...... it has been funny. We are going room by room and putting our/my style in each. I can't wait to see the finished product. We are still living in the apartment while we work on it. At the end of the month we should make the big move. We are just trying to finish painting and tiling before furniture goes in.  We tried to stay there one night in our sleeping bags but the paint fumes were too strong that we left at 3 in the morning.

Here is a short little video of the house and neighborhood. We need to take more pictures.

My first blog

I had the worst heart burn tonight after eating at this really spicy Mexican place that just opened up in downtown Salem. Riley and I decided to go home and watch the Florida/Bama game. Riley purchased some Jack Daniels and coke for the game, feeling bad I did not pre-game with him. Long story short he is snoring on the couch and I have decided to start a blog. EEk, I am not a big writer but I want something to look back on and see the different events that have taken place in my life.  I seem to be more forgetful that usual, I need this blog to help me remember the constant thoughts and dreams I have, especially funny things that happen that I always forget tell people. My life is sooo busy at the moment and living far away from family and friends I feel that this is more efficient than writing emails. Sorry Mom and Elizabeth.  So here it is MY BLOG... I am just going to write whatever comes to me and not worry with grammar or spelling. As seen above.
